Kukuruz, as sweetcorn is also called in parts of Austria and Old Bavaria, originated in Mexico and belongs to the sweet grass family.
You can get the corn pre-cooked or fresh, in packages of two. The cobs taste good boiled, fried, heated in the microwave or grilled.

Pre-cooked sweetcorn can be stored at room temperature for at least 3 months. Fresh sweetcorn keeps best in the vegetable compartment of the fridge, where it stays nice and plump.
